Book I
A peasant boy’s medieval village is assailed by bandits—his family broken and his memory lost. Nursed to health at a nearby Benedictine abbey, the boy, Xan (pronounced "Zan"), befriends a young monk. But when the bandits raid the monastery, Xan must discover the common thread behind these seemingly unconnected attacks.
